Benne Wafers stopped us in our tracks while researching southern foods in Charleston. These tasty treats are a southern specialty - and they are fantastic. Sesame and sweet. Great for deserts from ice cream and sorbet to fruits and berries. But you will have to stop yourself so they have a chance of getting to the table! The recipe for the wafers is made with the same care used in the plantation kitchens of the past. Bennes are thought to have come to the Carolinas from Africa and to bring good luck, so snack away.
